BUFFALO, NY, UNITED STATES, September 15, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Canisius University announced the launch of Canisius Computes, a new 1:1 computing initiative that provides every incoming first-year student with a MacBook Air. The program ensures all students have access to the same reliable technology from day one, supporting full participation in coursework and campus life.
Each MacBook Air issued through Canisius Computes is configured for academic use and backed by AppleCare+ coverage, along with support from the university’s IT services team. Devices were ready for use on the first day of classes, and standardized configuration eliminates compatibility gaps across university systems, digital course materials, and academic platforms.
Students who maintain continuous full-time enrollment for three years, or who graduate, will be able to keep their MacBook Air. Returning undergraduate students can also buy into the program at a discounted rate.
Canisius Computes Builds on Canisius’ Answer the Call Strategic Plan
Canisius Computes advances the university’s Answer the Call strategic plan, which prioritizes giving every student the tools needed to succeed starting on day one. The initiative follows other recent investments in student experience, including the Golisano Center for Student Success, a centralized hub for success coaching, career development, writing support, peer mentoring, and accessibility services that opened March 27, 2026.
Canisius University is also undertaking a multi-phase modernization of Old Main, its primary academic building, which has not seen major renovation since the 1990s. The project will transform 45,000 square feet of academic space by upgrading classrooms with advanced audiovisual systems, trackable cameras, wireless infrastructure, interactive displays, and mobile furniture. Several renovated classrooms will become HyFlex spaces, allowing students to attend courses in person, online in real time, or asynchronously.
