Molina Healthcare of Michigan (“Molina”), in collaboration with The MolinaCares Accord (“MolinaCares”), announced two grants to local nonprofits to enhance their efforts to reduce food and housing insecurity in the region. Donations, totaling $85,000, will be distributed to the United Way Bay County and its Food Forward and housing program as well as Rescue Ministries of Mid-Michigan’s Impact Design Program.
United Way’s Food Forward program helps bridge the gap for hardworking families who earn too much to qualify for SNAP benefits but still struggle to afford groceries. Serving households identified in the ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) population, the program provides direct grocery assistance through prepaid cards that can be used to purchase fresh and healthy foods at local retailers.
United Way’s Financial Assistance Housing Program provides emergency support for rent, mortgage, and utility expenses for households facing financial hardship. Community resource navigators offer families personalized assistance, connections to available resources, and support in addressing broader social and health-related needs.
“Molina’s investment into our local community allows us to fill gaps for hard-working families that just cannot always make ends meet right now,” said Nicole Luczak, president and CEO of United Way Bay County. “With access to nutritious groceries and housing support with rent assistance and utilities, families can reduce their stress and focus on long-term financial security.”
Rescue Ministries of Mid-Michigan’s Impact Design Program provides housing assistance, including furnishings, moving expenses, essential supplies, and case management to participants who are transitioning to permanent housing. Staff and volunteers transform empty apartments into welcoming homes by delivering and arranging donated furniture, household goods, and essential items.
“We are thankful for the partnership and investment in our homeless community by Molina Healthcare,” said Dan Streeter, CEO of Rescue Ministries of Mid-Michigan. “This funding will allow Rescue Ministries and our Impact Design Program the opportunity to help families get stabilized and thriving in their new housing opportunity. It’s what we like to call ‘Helping Home Happen.”’
“Food and housing are foundational to wellness which is why Molina is supporting the work of these two great organizations to provide consistent access for families in need,” said Terrisca Des Jardins, plan president of Molina Healthcare of Michigan. “These programs not only address immediate needs but also offer long-term solutions that pave a pathway to stability.”
