Expanded indication advances the company’s focus on procedural efficiency, standardization, and patient outcomes..
CANTON, MA, UNITED STATES, October 29, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — GI Windows Surgical, a commercial-stage medical technology company advancing magnetic compression anastomosis, today announced U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance of an expanded gastric indication for its Flexagon Plus OTOLoc™ System. The clearance extends the platform to connections between the stomach and small intestine, including gastrojejunostomy (GJ), and marks a significant expansion of its clinical application.
GJ creation is a technically demanding and clinically consequential step in gastrointestinal surgery. With this clearance, surgeons gain access to the only magnetic anastomosis technology in the world with an immediate lumen. Standard of care requires immediate luminal patency at time of anastomosis creation.
“Gastric clearance is a defining milestone for GI Windows Surgical and an important advancement for our platform,” said Brian Tinkham, Chief Executive Officer of GI Windows Surgical. “We are bringing magnetic anastomosis to a connection where efficiency, consistency, and healing have profound clinical importance. This is the opportunity we have been building towards: expanding the role of our technology into procedures where it can make a more meaningful difference for surgeons and their patients.”
GI Windows Surgical’s platform is the only magnetic anastomosis technology worldwide that establishes an immediate lumen at the time of surgery. This capability enables surgeons to utilize magnetic compression anastomosis in standard of care procedures, such as Roux-en-Y gastric bypass.
“The GJ is a connection where the quality of the anastomosis matters,” said Erik B. Wilson, MD, Chief Medical Officer of GI Windows Surgical. “Our multicenter, 85-patient trial is an important part of the clinical work advancing this technology. We see a compelling opportunity to standardize anastomosis creation and support reliable healing, and we are optimistic that this approach can translate into fewer GJ-related complications.”
“Building on our experience with magnetic anastomosis in jejunojejunostomy, we are excited to bring this approach to GJ,” said Carlos Galvani, MD, FACS, FASMBS, Professor and Chief of the Division of General Surgery at LSU Health New Orleans. “For our patients, progress means innovations that can improve the care we deliver. Extending this technology to another critical connection gives us an important opportunity to pursue greater consistency and efficiency, with reliable healing and better patient outcomes as the ultimate goals.”
