Presentations will examine low-thermal-conductivity drillstring coatings and GRE-lined carbon-steel solutions for demanding deepwater wells
HOUSTON, TX, UNITED STATES, August 25, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Tuboscope™ will present two technical papers at the 29th Annual Deepwater Technical Symposium, scheduled for August 25–26, 2026, at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside in New Orleans.
The presentations will highlight technologies designed to address two critical deepwater challenges: managing heat transfer in high-temperature drilling environments and protecting carbon-steel tubulars in demanding water-injection service.
Low-Thermal-Conductivity Coating for High-Temperature Drilling
Reza Fard, Director of Global Corrosion Control Technical Support for Tuboscope, will present “Low Thermal Conductivity Coating Extends BHA Life and Improves Drillstring Performance in Challenging High-Temperature Environments.”
The paper reviews Tuboscope’s development and testing of a low-thermal-conductivity internal coating intended to reduce heat transfer through the drillstring, helping keep drilling fluids and bottomhole assembly (BHA) tools cooler in high-temperature formations. The development program built upon coating technologies used to protect tubulars from corrosion, wear and deposit buildup while supporting hydraulic efficiency.
Multiple formulations were evaluated through an iterative development and testing process. According to the presentation abstract, the selected coating system achieved thermal conductivity nearly five times lower than the initial formulation and approximately 250 times lower than steel pipe.
Testing indicated that the coating could reduce heat-transfer rates without sacrificing corrosion resistance, chemical resistance or hydraulic efficiency. The paper will also review operator modeling used to simulate downhole temperature profiles and help optimize the coating design and drilling plan before field deployment.

GRE Liner System for Deepwater Injection Wells
Juan Sanz, Business Development Manager — TK™-Liner for Tuboscope, will present “Protecting Carbon Steel with Glass-Reinforced Epoxy (GRE) Liner System for Deepwater Injection Wells.”
The paper examines a GRE liner and corrosion barrier ring system designed to provide corrosion protection for carbon-steel tubulars while maintaining connection integrity and hydraulic performance. The system offers an alternative to corrosion-resistant alloys in applications where alloy cost and procurement constraints may be significant.
The technology combines a smooth, low-surface-energy GRE liner with flush, non-intrusive corrosion barrier rings installed in a pin-to-pin configuration. The design maintains a consistent internal diameter, accommodates full coupling tolerances and multiple premium thread geometries, permits coupling replacement, and allows tubing to be rethreaded without replacing the liner.
According to the presentation abstract, independent fit-for-service testing included hydrostatic rapid decompression at rates of up to 22,000 psi per minute with no detrimental effect on system performance. The abstract also reports more than approximately 2.45 million feet of field deployment across offshore developments worldwide, including wells ranging from 9,000 to 12,000 feet deep, operating temperatures from 162°F to 250°F, and injection pressures of up to 8,100 psi.
The reported results demonstrate corrosion protection, flow efficiency, connection flexibility and tubing reusability while reducing dependence on high-grade alloys for demanding deepwater injection and geothermal applications.
